TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF!
No, I'm not your mama! I'm not a doctor either. I do however know some things about nutrition, vitamins, homeopathic remedies and herbs.
First of all, don't start smoking! If you already smoke, I'm not going to waste our time by having you attempt to quit a drug that has been proven to be even more addicting than heroin. If you can quit, you will notice the benefits when you and your spotter can easily evade a sniper hide after taking out a high ranking enemy officer with one shot from 800 yards away.
If you drink, don't over-indulge when you celebrate victories or tell stories. The booze will not only reduce your health when abused, but will also cause one to divulge critical tactical information to infiltrating feds or enemy spies. Alcohol is one of the most enjoyable, humane and effective interrogation tools, in case you are gathering intelligence or getting information out of a captive enemy soldier.
If you're fat, loose it or stay out of the field so you don't become a liability to your buddies to deal with. Sorry, I'm not nice.
[If you are interested there is an addendum below the 12 lessons that contains information on WHY we are so fat, and how we can avoid the immense variety of foods that make us fat!! ED]
Vitamins are very important because they are an artificial way for those of us who cannot have a perfectly balanced diet every single day of our lives, to keep good health and nutrition. When I go a few days without my vitamins, I feel like I have a slight hangover. When I take them, I feel five years younger. I like to take supplements five days a week and give it a break on normal weekends.
Vitamin C, (1,000 mg. per day Ester C) is most important. It will build up your immunity. One B-Complex per day will also keep up your immunity by keeping the nasal mucus flowing. The mucus flow continuously flushes pollen, pollution and viruses from your system. Spit it out, don't swallow that crap! Why do you think your body is getting rid of it? Chics don't like "snorters" anyway.
[Ed - I personally take 4000 gm per day as recommended by Linus Pauling for a grown man. Sorry Badger. 1000 is barely enough to ward off rickets - IMHO - FWIW - &c. *grin*]
Vitamin B-1 is preventative insect repellent.
1,000 - 3,000 mcg. of B-12 taken in the day, will keep you a little more awake with a boost of energy, then good sleep at night. One Beta Carotene per day will improve day and night vision. Be careful not to overdose on Beta Carotene. Lots of Vitamin E, like vitamin C is an antioxidant that helps prevent cancer. Vitamin E is also good for skin, hair growth and gets all the juices flowing.
400 mcg. of Chromium Picolinate per day can slow body fat gain by helping the body reduce slight amounts of fat while building muscle, kind of like natural steroids. You need to work out and/or exercise in order for this to work. When you get in shape from working out, you might actually get heavier because muscle is heavier than fat. I've noticed how much easier it is to shoot a rifle bracing with a sling and how it isn't painful and cramping after building some muscle.
Calcium - Magnesium - Zinc with Glucosamine and Condroiton is good for the older guys and the aches and pains of Arthritis or old worn-out joints. Try to take minerals at night. Cranberry Concentrate is good for your bladder and kidneys if you hate cranberry juice like I do. Stop drinking soda pop. Even beer is better for you than pop, but beer is even more fattening.
Saw Palmetto Berries are good for the older troops to maintain healthy prostate. Start taking these when you hit 40.
Most of this stuff is good for your animals too.
Mothers to be, Vitamin B-6 for morning sickness.
Homeopathic remedies placed under your tongue to melt are very effective. Rhus Toxidendron for Arthritis, Arnica Montana for general pain relief.
Herbs are good. Valarian for pain relief and calming. Chickweed ointment for bruising and sore muscles. Herbal teas for what ails you. Dandelion leaves on your salad.
Lots and lots and lots of apple juice for kidney stones. Then more apple juice.
Peppermint oil behind your neck and on your upper lib will give you a powerful burst of energy.
One aspirin a day keeps the cardiologist away. If you take a blood thinner, avoid combat injuries more than a person who doesn't take blood thinners. (Stay in logistics or support)
I am constantly discovering new natural remedies. Go to one of those super liberal, tree huggin', bunny lovin' vitamin/grocery stores and talk to the little hippy chicks that work there. They really know there stuff when it comes to health, but not how to hold onto your Constitution.
"Keep your powder dry and watch your six."
