You have been handed a brochure or business card at a gun show, a preparedness expo or a conservative/patriot conference of some kind. The person who handed you the information noticed that you looked healthy, athletic, and maybe that invisible badge that you wear that was long forgotten about. The badge is the slightly evident tactically experienced look of a current or past military or law enforcement person. Or maybe like myself recruiting, saw you at a gun show and noticed how you don't talk to people about what your plan is, and when you pick up an AK-47 or AR-15 to admire it and check the action, you seem to know your way around it very well. Yes, someone like me is noticing you, but before you jump up and say that you will join, realize that he or she might be a Fed!
Do not try to find militia units! If you are honestly a Patriot, your character will eventually prove your trust among other honest Patriots who will steer you in the right direction, introduce you to a foot soldier or form up with you themselves. Just stay informed and do the best you can to start training yourself. This is done by gathering knowledge through military manuals. Buy them at the gun show or Army Navy surplus store. Try to practice some of the things in the manuals that you can do legally or simulate. Start collecting desert fatigues if you live in a desert or barren environment and woodland camo fatigues if you live anywhere else in the United States of America. Tiger stripes are only for deep jungle. (I will have gear suggestions later.)
It is very difficult to balance between being cautious of the people that you meet and not letting excessive paranoia get between what could be a friendship that may save your life someday. Again, your character and their's will prevail. If it breaks up, it's not meant to be.
Something that breaks my heart is someone who wants to be a Citizen Foot Soldier but they can't make it to the top of a hill without their heart medication or being in a bad way physically. Weaker people will be a liability that will slow down an entire mission. This person wants to help somehow and he or she can make great logistical support person as long as this can be suggested very tactfully. Every true Patriot is an asset to our nation, they just need to assume a position that they can do a good job at. The physical standards for grunt work need not be Ranger quality but a man or a woman must be able to hike for a mile at a time in rough terrain with 50-60 labs. of weight and a heavy rifle. They can't be afraid of being alone in the dark for long periods of time or on serious medications.
Others that can travel by vehicle or horseback and are not stranded in the field, could be Engineers, Truck Drivers, Artillery Support (when law & order is gone), Heavy Equipment Operators, Chuck Wagon Cookies, Mechanics, Gun Smiths/Weapons Armorers, Camp Security, Undercover Outside Security Lookouts posing as "other campers during training exercises," Aircraft and Boat Pilots, Horsemen, Logistical Support and Med-Evac on ATV's with trailers, etc.
If you end up joining a unit, you must Remember to say, "Good luck guys, but I'm outta here!" when they start doing or seriously suggesting things that are illegal. It is becoming more and more difficult to stay legal and train the way you should train. Don't mess with explosives, (unless no law & order) but very cautiously for security and safety, educate yourself alone secretly on this subject for future use. Don't use full auto weapons without a Class 3 license. (unless no law & order) Full auto is only good for machine guns and squad automatic weapons anyway. Rifles are better on semi auto and besides, we won't have the extorted Americans buying us endless truck loads of ammo to throw down range over enemy heads without hitting them any better. (More on weapons later)
Read manuals and practice them till you know them generally by heart. I suggest the Ranger Handbook to start with, and it will refer to other manuals to further explain basic skills. After you read these manuals you will figure out ways to modify them to fit your unit and not react too predictably to any enemy units that may use the same manuals.<.p>
Study extreme weather survival skills. If you can afford it take every tactical course available to you. Go to the range and get very good with a handgun. Read books like, TACTICAL PISTOL Advanced Gunfighting Concepts and Techniques by Gabriel Suarez; Foreword by Jeff Cooper $25.00 from Paladin Press. Get good tactical advise from good instructors. (more on this later) This will be a gradual accumulation of knowledge from text, movies, war documentaries, military manuals, web sites, veterans with experience, clever people with imagination, if you can stand to read the whole book, Sun Su's The Art of War, and also right here. Be patient, it will come.
